In a series of posts I will write some information about the party lists in Hungary for the 2009 European Parliament elections. The order of the parties does not reflect any personal preference; there are still not announced lists and candidates. But firstly, here is an overview of the political parties involved in the election.

The EU has run into the current world economic crisis with rigid political institutions and lack of a clear decision-making capability, it has a diminishing competitiveness on in the world economy and it had the lowest growth rate among the great regions of the World in this decade. The manifest Western-Eastern division will suck up a lot of political, diplomatic and economic effort in the worst economic condition.

Today’s summit was a sign of the lacking leadership and vision in the EU. When the crisis will be over, Merkel and Sarkozy will be the leaders of the past, and the EU will look fundamentally different from today. The rift between the East and the West has become manifest. The Eastern member states have de facto formed a group within the Union and none of their demands were met by the majority.
